Jolla Sailfish OS-Powered Smartphone Launched by Ex-Nokia Engineers

A team of Ex-Nokia employees unveils a Smartphone running on a new operating system – Jolla. The Jolla mobile is launched with the MeeGo operating system; now renamed Sailfish which Nokia abandoned in 2011 in favor of using window OS. Sailfish, an open source operating system, powers the phone. It can run many applications that are usually developed for the Google’s Android Platform. A team of Ex- Nokia engineers is expecting to capture a share of the competitive and profitable smartphone market with the launch of the new handset. It is based on the old software of the former world’s leading mobile phones maker.

The Smartphone features 4.5 inch IPS LCD Capacitive touchscreen with a pixel density of 245ppi and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 2.

The Jolla device has 8 mega pixel primary camera with auto focus and single LED flash, which produces superior quality pictures and videos. The secondary camera is 2 megapixel for video calling.

Jolla handset is powered by a dual core 1.4 GHz Krait processor along with 1 GB RAM. According to company, the handset will give you better performance equivalent to other quad-core phones being a dual-core device. The company has used powerful hardware in this device that will never desperate you while playing HD games and watching HD movies. If we discuss about the look of handset, then it seems sleek and more stylish. It gives premium look and may be status symbol for some people.

The Smartphone is similar to recently launched Nokia Lumia 925, comes with interchangeable snap on covers. The device is compatible with 85,000 Android Apps offered by Google Inc’s Android, the influential and popular operating system that has enabled Samsung to overtake the former world’s leading mobile phones maker. It even supports fastest 4G Internet connection including Nokia’s HERE maps covering 180 countries. It will be launched first in Finland and after that in another 135 other countries. Jolla price in India would be between 30,000 to 35,000 Rupees.

In a consumer survey, Jolla seems to make its own way and stand out in comparison to other smartphones. Though it features a standard camera, has memory storage of 16 GB, and uses a Micro SD card but the touch quality is highly appreciable inclusive of features such as multiple swipes and a valuable user replaceable battery in comparison with the other models.

At last, I would say that you should wait for this handset to be available in the market and after a virtual glance you can make order for it.

The Sailfish OS:

Jolla OS is absolutely different from Android, that is ruling the phone market. The operating system is completely gesture based and will be more handy for beginners. For using an app, you just need to swipe left to right to get back to home screen. When you have to close, just swipe from top to bottom.

After unlocking the phone, you will realize that you can access all the apps in one touch, just keep swiping down.

The OS has unique feature called live multitasking, which displays all the running apps in grid view and you can easily close or swith them from here.
